Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies (or markers) are small text files created by the web server on the user's device when the user accesses a specific site for the purpose of storing and transporting information.

These markers are sent from the web server to the user's device (usually to the browser) and stored so that they can be recognized at each subsequent visit. The cookies, in fact, at each subsequent visit are resent from the user's device to the site.

First-party and third-party cookies

Cookies can be installed not only by the same operator of the website visited by the user (first-party cookies), but also by a different site that installs them through the first site (third-party cookies) and that is able to recognize them. This happens because, on the visited website, there may be elements (e.g. images, maps, sounds, links to web pages of other domains, etc.) that reside on servers other than the one used by the visited web site.

Technical, analytical and profiling cookies

According to the purpose, cookies are distinguished in technical cookies and in profiling cookies.
Technical cookies are installed for the sole purpose of "transmitting a communication through an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service to provide such service based on an explicit request by a subscriber or an user" (see art. 122, prf. 1 of Legislative Decree 196/2003, hereinafter, "Privacy Code").

They are usually used to allow efficient navigation between web pages, to store user preferences, to store information on specific user configurations, to authenticate users, etc.

Technical cookies can be divided into navigation cookies, used in order to record data useful for normal browsing and use of the website on the user's computer (allowing, for example, to remember the preferred size of a web page in a list) and functional cookies, which allow the website to remember the choices made by the user in order to optimize its functionality (for example, functional cookies allow the site to remember the specific settings of a user, such as country selection and, if set, the status of permanent access). Some of these cookies (called essential or strictly necessary) enable functions without which it would not be possible to carry out some operations.

Pursuant to the aforementioned art. 122, prf. 1 of the Privacy Code, the use of technical cookies does not require users’ consent, instead it requires the obligation to properly inform users.

Technical cookies are assimilated - and therefore, as specified in the Italian Data Protection Authority Decision dated May 8th 2014, "Simplified Arrangements to Provide Information and Obtain Consent Regarding Cookies" (hereinafter, solely the "Decision"), for its installation, users' consent is not required – to the s.c. analytics cookies if they are

  • created and used directly by the first-part web site operator (without, therefore, the intervention of third parties) for the purpose of optimizing the same to collect aggregated information on the number of users and how they visit the site itself, as well as
  • created and made available by third parties and used by the first party web site for mere statistical purposes, if appropriate tools are adopted to reduce their identifying power (for example, by masking significant portions of the IP address) and if their use is subject to contractual obligations between the first-party and third-party web site managers, expressly referring to the commitment of the third party or using them exclusively for the provision of the service, to keep them separately and not "enrich" or "cross-check" them with other information at their disposal.

I Profiling cookies are used to track user navigation, analyze their behavior for marketing purposes and create profiles on their tastes, habits, choices, etc. in order to transmit targeted advertisements in relation to your interests and in line with the preferences expressed by these in the online navigation.

These cookies can be installed on the user's terminal only if he/she has given his/her consent with the methods indicated in this document.

Persistent and session cookies

Based on their duration, cookies are distinguished in persistent cookies, which remain stored until their expiration, on the user's device, except in case of removal by the latter, and in session cookies, which are not stored permanently on user’s device and they disappear when the browser is closed.
